The view from the autonomous vehicle

04-11-2019

Project manager at the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition, Marc Desportes is a former student of the Ecole polytechnique, a Ponts et Chaussées engineer and a doctor of urban planning. He spent more than fifteen years of experience in project management for prestigious projects, after ten years as director of planning and urban development for local authorities. He is the author of several books in the field of development, urban planning and landscape.

In the near future, the autonomous vehicle (AV) is likely to affect mobility, economics, industry, employment, insurance policy and, of course, infrastructures. More specifically, among the many impacts on infrastructure, we find : form and function of traffic signalization, rights-of-way design, design and location of parking space, pick-up and drop-off areas, pedestrian and bicycle facilities… That’s why the future of AV encompasses the future of infrastructures.
