16-04-2020 Amazon shuts French warehouses after virus safety dispute

On Tuesday, the Court of competent jurisdiction in social matters ordered Amazon to only ship essential items such as food and medicine to customers in France until it did a systemic assessment of worker safety at its warehouses, or face fines of up to €1m per day.
The government’s worker safety regulator has found problems at five of Amazon’s six warehouses, including workers being unable to respect social distancing rules, and a lack of hand sanitisers. But instead of simply limiting sales, however, Amazon has chosen to shut the facilities entirely for 5 days.
